PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 285 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Jan 20), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,034,228 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 280 of Friday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while five imported infections were logged.
Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 300 patients recovering on Friday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,986,943 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 10,355 active cases currently in the country, with 9,957, or 96.2%, observing home quarantine.
The KKMNow portal reported that 382 patients, or 3.7% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 16, with 14 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 64.2%, with 11 states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 85.7%, followed by Terengganu (82.9%), Kelantan (80.8%), Selangor (78.2%), Melaka (71.4%), Kedah (68.3%), Johor (66.1%), Sabah (65%), Negeri Sembilan (63.3%), Kuala Lumpur (63%) and Perak (62.1%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were seven Covid-19 deaths reported on Thursday bringing the death toll up to 36,930.
