KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) is hopeful that the Year of the Rabbit would bring prosperity to Sabah with the people putting Covid-19 pandemic behind them.
“Hopefully, this year will bring more peace, prosperity and longevity, he said.
In his Chinese New Year message, he expressed hope that the Chinese community would be able to celebrate the lunar new year in an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill with people of other races.
He also gave an assurance that the state government would always support the community’s cultural activities.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew also said the Chinese New Year holds promises of hope, progress and prosperity.
“I believe the worst of it is over (Covid-19 pandemic). It is time to rebuild our flagging economy,” she said in her message.
“As we usher in the Year of the Rabbit, we will face the economic challenges ahead with a positive outlook, dynamism and strong resilience in seeking viable solutions.
“And given the nature of this Water Rabbit, it also symbolises longevity, peace and harmony which is vital for the cohesiveness of our plural society,” she added.
Liew said the lunar new year was a celebration not only for the Chinese community but also for all other races of diverse cultures in the spirit of unity.
“Unity in diversity is what is unique about Sabah and her people. We have preserved this distinctive feature for decades,” she added.
Liew is optimistic that 2023 will be a prosperous year for Malaysia in general and Sabah in particular “as we reopen our doors to international tourists from various countries, especially those from China, towards achieving a sustainable economy”.
“Let us make the most of the opportunities awaiting us out there this year.
“Our goal is attainable if all stakeholders play their role effectively to rejuvenate the industry and maintain Sabah’s reputation as a premier tourist destination,” she added.
