Two children among six killed in Kluang head-on collision


KLUANG: Six people were killed, including two children, and five others were badly injured during a head-on collision at KM71 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident happened at 5pm on Sunday (Jan 22), when the first vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle and drove in the opposite direction.

“There were eight people inside the first vehicle that was heading towards Kahang from Kluang.

“The driver had lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another incoming car that was driven by a 54-year-old man.

“The crash had caused the first vehicle to overturn and fall into an open area right next to the road,” he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin said that the people who were killed were all passengers of the first vehicle, and five of them were pronounced dead at the location.

“The victims are Muhammad Adil Abdul Kahdir, 22, Masrina Kahdar, 20, Muhammad Zharfan Noramin, 15, Muhammad Syakir Noramin, 10, and Mohammad Ashraf Rafiq Abdullah, 10.

“Another victim, Siti Nurzannah Kahdar, 25, was pronounced dead while being treated at the Kluang Hospital.

“The driver of the second vehicle suffered broken ribs and is currently being treated in the red zone, together with his 47-year-old wife and 13-year-old daughter.

"The driver of the first vehicle is also being treated in the red zone, along with another passenger, a six-year-old girl," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Shamsul Amri Mohd Shahab said all of the victims were removed from their vehicles by the public.
