Body of drowned teen found off Johor beach


KOTA TINGGI: Authorities have recovered the body of a teenager who went missing during a swimming trip at Pantai Batu Layar here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the search and rescue team found the body floating towards the beach at around 5.20pm Monday (Jan 23).

“Initial checks found the 17-year-old victim drowned. The victim’s body did not show any signs of injuries and he was fully clothed when found.

“The identity of the victim was confirmed by his parents at the scene,” he said in a statement.

Supt Hussin added that the victim’s body was found about 100m from where he had been reported missing.

He said the body was then brought to the Kota Tinggi Hospital for a postmortem.

The search operation ended at around 6pm.

Supt Hussin also advised the public visiting recreational areas, especially beaches, to be careful during the monsoon season.

“The public should adhere to the instructions issued by authorities, including local councils, to avoid a repeat of such incidents in the near future,” he added.

On Sunday (Jan 22), a 16-year-old boy drowned while another teenager was reported missing after a swimming outing at the beach.

The first victim was identified as Mohamad Imran Mohd Nazir, while the second victim was Hani Suefyan Hanizam.

The duo had come to the beach with four other friends on motorcycles from Kluang.

Their intention to go to the beach was made known to their parents.
