PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 309 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Jan 22), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,034,830 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 308 of Sunday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.
There were 292 recoveries on Sunday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,987,561 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 10,337 active cases currently in the country, with 9,943, or 96.2%, observing home quarantine.
The KKMNow portal reported that 394 patients, or 3.81% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 13, with 10 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 59.5%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 85.7%, followed by Selangor (73.9%), Johor (71.4%), Terengganu (71.4%), Kelantan (69.9%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%), Kedah (63.4%) and Perak (61.1%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there no Covid-19 deaths were reported on Sunday.
The death toll remains at 36,932.
