KUALA LUMPUR: A memorandum on the revised Budget 2023 will be submitted to the Prime Minister covering issues such as the economy, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as education, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the party held a dialogue with several NGOs last September to hear their views and aspirations and on matters needing the attention of the government.

He said issues faced by SMEs and remedial measures to address them were important, adding that these were not just restricted to the lack of manpower.

“There are many other aspects that need to be looked at in order for SMEs to lead the way to boost economic growth.

“In terms of the global economy, I can see that there are several big challenges such as the trade war between the United States and China, which will be a factor in affecting economic growth, the inflation rate, and foreign investments.

“We will update the memorandum following several latest announcements made by the government and hand it over after the Chinese New Year celebration,” Dr Wee told reporters at the party’s Chinese New Year open house here on Sunday.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Cabinet members and other VIPs.

The revised Budget 2023 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on Feb 24.

Saying he had discussions with the Prime Minister on the matters to be raised in the memorandum, Dr Wee also thanked Anwar for approving a RM40mil allocation for the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

He also hoped that the Year of the Rabbit would bring happiness and prosperity to all Malaysians.
