MELAKA: Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datuk Shadan Othman (pic) has been elevated as the new Mayor of the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) from Feb 1.

Melaka State Secretary Datuk Zaidi Johari said Shadan would replace Datuk Zainal Abu whose tenure as Mayor ends on Jan 31.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (Jan 25), Zaidi also announced that Jasin Municipal Council president Datin Sapiah Haron would assume the post of MPHTJ president, also on Feb 1.

Her position would be replaced by Asst Senior Secretary of the Local Government Unit under the Chief Minister's Department Rosmanizam Mohd Nalif @ Zawawi on the same date.

The statement also said that there was no change in Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG) and its current president Saifuddin Abdul Karim would continue helming the position.

"On behalf of the state government, I would like to congratulate all the new appointees," added Zaidi.
