Acting Selangor police chief: Beware of online contest scam using my name

PETALING JAYA: Beware of an online contest scam, which falsely uses the name of Acting Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi, and promises RM270,000 in cash prizes.

DCP Sasikala said the scam, which was supposedly "organised" by Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Maybank Berhad, used her name to falsely claim that the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) "verified" that the contest was legitimate.

"It is nothing but a scam using the police and the MACC. They even posed as me in a bid to fool victims.

"I am not involved at all with the contest scam that has gone viral on social media sites," she said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 26).

Stern action will be taken against anyone who posed as herself or using her name, DCP Sasikala said.

"We advise the public to be careful and not be duped by tactics used by scammers," she said.
