Body of drowned teenager found in Muar

MUAR: The body of a 19-year-old teenager, who has been missing since Wednesday (Jan 25) after swimming at a river here, has been found.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Shahrizal Mokhtar said the victim was found at about 10.30am on Friday (Jan 27).

"The body was found at a river bank about 7.5km from the location where the teenager was reported to have been last seen.

"The body has been handed over to the police for further actions," he said in a statement here on Friday (Jan 27).

Meanwhile, Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said that the teenager was found fully clothed at the river bank of Sungai Sarang Buaya.

"Family members of the victim were at the scene to identify the victim. His body has been sent to Hospital Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for further action," he added.

He said that the case has been classified as sudden death.

The victim was believed to have drowned after swimming in a river on Jalan Parit Haji Anuar with two other friends.

He was reported to have jumped into the river from a bridge and later seen resurfacing and calling for help.

His friends tried to save him but failed due to the strong river current, said ACP Raiz in an earlier statement.
