Floods: 4,868 victims in Johor now seeking shelter, eight districts affected


JOHOR BARU: The number of districts in Johor affected by the flood has gone up to eight with Tangkak being the latest to be hit by it.

The state Disaster Management Committee said as of 8am on Friday (Jan 27), the number of victims currently seeking shelter at 50 temporary relief centres have gone up to 4,868 from 4,853 previously.

"One relief centre was opened at about 6am on Friday for 15 people from three families. They are from Kg Pengkalan Kota in Tangkak.

"Mersing remains as the district with the highest number of victims (1,793) followed by Kluang (1,173), Kota Tinggi (900), Segamat (490), Batu Pahat (358), Muar (121) and Pontian (18)," the statement reads.

Earlier, as of 8pm on Thursday (Jan 26), the number of victims affected by the flood stood at 4,575 from seven districts.

The statement added that several roads in Segamat, Mersing and Kulai have also been closed due to the floods.
