JEMPOL: Three individuals and a juvenile pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of extorting RM14,000 from a 24-year-old businessman.
Mohamad Fairul Mohd Alwi, 23; Mohamad Emran Faiz Yahya, 28; and a 17-year-old student who cannot be named claimed trial after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Norshazwani Ishak here on Monday (Jan 30).
They allegedly committed the offence at around 1am on Jan 23 at a house in Felda Serting Hilir 5.
The trio were charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation.
Offenders can be jailed up to 10 years or fined or whipped or with any two of such punishments.
Norshazwani then allowed the two older suspects to be released on RM11,000 bail each while the juvenile was offered RM4,000 with one surety each.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Loqman Hakim Ahmad Khairie prosecuted while the suspects were unrepresented.
The court also fixed March 3 for mention.
At the Sessions Court in Kuala Pilah later, the suspects were charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon against the same victim.
They claimed trial after the charge was read to them before judge Norma Ismail.
The suspects allegedly committed the offence at the same time and place.
They were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.
They had allegedly used a hoe handle, broomstick and a rubber hose to assault the victim.
Norma then allowed Mohamad Fairul and Mohamad Emran bail of RM6,000 each while the student was offered RM2,000 with one surety each.
They were also told not to contact the victim and to stay away from him.
She then fixed March 6 for mention.
The suspects were unrepresented while DPP Muhammad Amirul Noor Hashimi prosecuted.
