Tengku Zafrul looking to run for Umno supreme council post

KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (pic) is looking to contest for the Umno supreme council position, reported Astro Awani.

The International Trade and Industry Minister said the move would allow him to build a strong political footing in the long term.

"If given a chance, I would be humbled to offer myself to contest for the Umno supreme council to continue contributing to the party," he told Astro Awani.

Tengku Zafrul said the political landscape is becoming more dynamic, hence it would open up space for healthy competition.

"Politics is dynamic, and the most important thing is an effective touch to help and elevate the country and the people," he said.

"Umno is an experienced party and Barisan Nasional has mature leaders who have seen the ups and downs of politics, hence I believe that leaders and party grassroots want to see a more dynamic leadership from all backgrounds to ensure that the process to strengthen the party post GE15 goes on well," he added.

The former finance minister is Selangor Barisan Nasional treasurer.

The former banker also contested for the Kuala Selangor seat in GE15 which he lost to incumbent Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
