Cops nab man who flew into jealous rage after seeing his ex out with friends

MELAKA: A jealous man reportedly attacked his ex-lover in a rage after seeing her sharing a table with four male friends at an entertainment outlet in Kota Syahbandar here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said a 23-year-old student from Taman Puncak Bukit Katil here lodged a police report at 3.20am on Sunday (Feb 5) against the suspect, who allegedly attacked her while she was having drinks with her friends.

He said the woman claimed the suspect, also 23, shoved her to the ground and hit her friends with bottles and chairs.

“The suspect had six accomplices and my team is tracking them down," ACP Christopher said on Tuesday (Feb 7), adding that the complainant's friends suffered face and body injuries.

He said the attack was believed to be motivated by jealousy and the suspect was apparently drunk when he attacked the group.

The man was detained at Jalan Kota Melaka here at 7am the same day and remanded for four days to help with the probe.

ACP Christopher said the case would be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
