Nazri to be Malaysia's ambassador to US, says Wisma Putra

PETALING JAYA: Former Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has been appointed as Malaysia’s ambassador to the United States, says Wisma Putra.

The Foreign Ministry said the King had presented letters of credence to Nazri and nine other new heads of diplomatic missions during an official ceremony at Istana Negara on Thursday (Feb 9).

Since last year, speculation has been rife that Nazri will be appointed as Malaysia's Ambassador to either Switzerland or the US.

Nazri previously said he refused to be the Ambassador to Switzerland, as he needed to resign as an MP first.

He did not defend his Padang Rengas seat in GE15.

Meanwhile, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin @ Syed Hussin was appointed as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia.

Syed Md joined the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1994 and previously served as Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York since 2019.

He was also the former Malaysian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2017 to 2019.

Meanwhile, Datuk Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino Anthony was also appointed as Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Philippines.

Abdul Malik was previously Malaysia’s ambassador to Italy since 2018.

Hendy Assan, the former ambassador to Uzbekistan, was appointed as Malaysia’s ambassador to Holy See.

Others were Hafizah Abdullah, who was appointed as Malaysia’s ambassador to Sweden.

Gloria Corina Peter Tiwet was appointed as ambassador to Brazil, and Suzilah Mohd Sidek as the ambassador to Czech Republic.

Amarjit Singh was appointed as the ambassador to Timor-Leste and Alauddin Mohd Nor was appointed as the ambassador to Kuwait.

Ruzaimi Mohamad was appointed as the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya.

The ceremony at Istana Negara on Thursday (Feb 9) was attended by Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and deputy secretary-general for bilateral affairs Datuk Norman Muhammad.
