Jendela Phase 2 expected to start Q1 2023, says MCMC

CYBERJAYA: The implementation of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) Phase 2 (2023-2025) is expected to start in the first quarter (Q1) of 2023, says Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus.

He said MCMC needs to present the targets and related matters regarding the second phase first, as well as wait for the green light from the Communications and Digital Ministry and its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, regarding the implementation.

"We will present it to the ministry, once we receive the 'clearance' from the minister, then we can start,” he told Bernama and RTM about the status of the second phase of Jendela after launching the “Accelerated Leadership Programme (ALP) Series Cohort 1” closing ceremony here today (Feb 10).

"The target for the second phase is to complete connectivity for the remaining 3% of the population in the community. It is the most challenging area, which is inland and remote areas, including the Orang Asli settlements,” he said.

He added that the first phase of Jendela, which was completed in December 2022, has achieved 4G coverage of 96.92%, while in terms of speed, it has reached 77 megabits per second (Mbps), compared with the initial target of 35 Mbps.

Regarding the ALP, which was held for the first time, he said that it was a strategic collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), with 39 MCMC staff members successfully completing the programme, from 2020 to 2022.

The programme is fully sponsored by MCMC for specific leadership development for its staff, consisting of senior and junior executive groups, based on behavioural competency models and digital leadership characteristics. - Bernama
