PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is actively contributing to the telecommunications sector and digital technology development agenda in the Asean region, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications and Digital Minister said this was done through the implementation of several projects outlined in the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025 (ADM2025).
At the same time, Fahmi said Malaysia's participation in the Third Asean Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN3) was Malaysia's continuous commitment in strengthening the role of information and communications technology (ICT) sector as the main driver behind the Asean social and economic transformation in the post pandemic landscape.
Fahmi said this in a statement on Friday (Feb 10) evening after leading Malaysian delegation to ADGMIN3 in Boracay, Philippines from Feb 9 to Feb 10.
The ADGMIN3 meeting that was themed "Synergized Asean: Human-Centric Approach to a Sustainable Digital Transformation" was chaired by the Philippines' communications and information technology minister Ivan John E. Uy.
Fahmi also said ministry chief secretary Datuk Mohammad Mentek led the Malaysian delegation to the Asean Digital Ministry Senior officers Meeting (ADGSOM) from Feb 6 to Feb 8 at the same location.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the meeting also ratified the Boracay Declaration.
"The Boracay Declaration basically outlines the commitment of Asean countries in 2023 to strengthen cooperation relations towards the development of the communication and digital technology sector through the implementation of projects in line with ADM2025," said Fahmi.
However, Fahmi stressed that all agreements made in the meeting does not represent Malaysia's stance in recognising the State Administration Council (SAC) as the legitimate Myanmar government.
"Malaysia has always stressed its stance that the SAC has to expedite measures in finding a solution towards the ongoing political turmoil in Myanmar," added Fahmi.
