KUCHING: The move to digitalise the display of motor vehicle road tax and Malaysian driving licences will help improve service delivery to the people, says Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
Welcoming the initiative, he said it was timely as many Malaysians had now adopted the use of digital technology and online services.
"As everyone knows, road tax and driving licences are compulsory for vehicle owners.
"Congestion and long queues to obtain these services at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters are a common complaint among the public.
"Digitalising these services will enable the government to deliver them more effectively," Lee said in a statement on Friday (Feb 10).
He also called on motorists to comply with laws and regulations relating to road tax display and driving licences.
Earlier Friday, federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke said private vehicle owners no longer need to display road tax stickers on their vehicles once they have the digital version of the road tax.
He said the digital display of road tax and driving licences, which can be applied for on the JPJ website or MyJPJ app, would be the solution to the constant complaints of vehicle owners and drivers.
