PETALING JAYA: A man fresh out of jail was arrested once again after a spate of convenience store robberies was linked to him.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the arrest was made after a report was lodged following a robbery on Jan 24 here.
During the incident, the suspect pretended to buy prepaid top-ups before taking out an air gun to threaten a worker.
“The suspect fled with RM250 on a motorcycle. The air gun was also fired and a plastic bullet hit the lip of the worker,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
On Feb 2, police raided a house in Kuala Lumpur, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.
Among the items seized were a silver air gun that resembled a revolver and five identity cards belonging to other people.
Sources said they were confident that the air gun used during the robbery was not a real revolver due to the injury sustained by the victim.
Investigations showed that the suspect had just been released from prison in January. He was sentenced previously for robbery.
“He was found to have been involved in three similar robberies in the Petaling Jaya area. With his arrest, we have solved four robbery cases in the district,” he said.
In an unrelated case, police busted a gang of vehicle thieves.
On Feb 3, a lorry was reported missing within the Mutiara Damansara area.
GPS tracking on the vehicle noted its last location in Penang at 2.15pm on the same day.
“Based on information gathered, a police team arrested two suspects, aged 27 and 28, at a bus stop in Jalan Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin in Kuala Lumpur.
“A third suspect was arrested on Feb 4 in Bandar Puchong Jaya. Questionings led to the discovery that the group had stolen two vehicles in the Petaling Jaya area,” said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.
Based on the information gathered from the suspects, the police recovered a car and van that had been reported missing in January.
A fourth suspect is still at large, and the police are still pursuing the suspect.
“All three were remanded until Feb 9 and have been handed over to the Shah Alam police for investigation on cases in the district,” he said.
