New Rahmah initiative involving clothes to be announced soon, says Salahuddin

JOHOR BARU: A new Rahmah initiative involving clothes is expected to be announced soon, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said that he will be having further discussion with the relevant industry players next week to iron out details related to the initiative.

“I have just contacted several clothing industry players in the country and there is a possibility that we may have a new Rahmah initiative during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“A dialogue session will be held with the industry players next week and we will announce more details after that,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after launching the state-level Retail Sector Digitisation Initiative Programme (ReDI) at a supermarket here in Tampoi on Saturday (Feb 11).

He said there will also be other initiatives that will be announced under the Rahmah programme.

“We have other good news for the public under the Rahmah initiative, which will be announced soon,” he said.

On a separate matter, Salahuddin also said that government subsidies for petrol and diesel are expected to remain in Budget 2023, which will be tabled soon.

“As of now, the government will stick to the existing implementation for the fuel subsidy until a decision is made to turn it into a targeted subsidy.

“So far, in the Cabinet meeting I attended last Wednesday, the decision was to maintain the subsidy,” he said in response to questions whether the fuel subsidy will remain in Budget 2023.

Menu Rahmah - an initiative under the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry - offers RM5 meals for lunch or dinner at nearly 15,000 food premises nationwide.

The menu comprises a balanced meal that includes rice, a choice of protein, either chicken or fish and vegetables, which is being offered to those affected by the current increase in the cost of living.
