PETALING JAYA: With immediate effect, private vehicles owned by Malaysians need not deal with messy road tax stickers once they have received their digital eLKM – the electronic version of road tax stickers.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the electronic form of verification that will also include Malaysian driving licences (eLMM) will be the solution to the constant complaints by vehicle owners about the poor quality of the sticker-type road tax displays that tear easily or leave adhesive stains on the windscreen.

In a statement yesterday, Loke said that an in-house pilot project is now underway to begin usage of the digital display mode of the eLKM and eLMM via an app.
The eLKM is the electronic version of the road tax stickers for privately owned vehicles, whereas the eLMM is the electronic version of the Malaysian driving licences.
Both eLKM and eLMM can be applied through the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) website or MyJPJ apps now.

Loke said with the digital road tax, vehicle owners no longer need to display the hard copy of the road tax stickers.
The amendment to the regulations to enable this will be gazetted using the powers vested with the Transport Minister.
However, the entire digitalisation process of both the road tax stickers and the driving licences will be implemented in phases.
Loke said that those who are not ready to go digital now can still display their road tax stickers on their vehicles during the interim period until the digitalisation phases are fully completed.
“I had received various feedback on the road tax stickers.
“The Transport Ministry will alleviate the people’s difficulty with the road tax stickers and Malaysian driving licences through digitalisation.
“As of Feb 10, Malaysian owners of private vehicles can use the digital display modes of eLKM and eLMM which can be applied through the JPJ site or MyJPJ apps under a pilot project,” he pointed out.
The digitalisation of the two most commonly made transactions among the public will alleviate the long queues at JPJ counters.
