PETALING JAYA: Nurul Izzah Anwar has announced that she will no longer serve as senior adviser on economics and finance to her father, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Finance Minister, Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican, together with the other esteemed members, have invited me to co-head the secretariat to support their work for the nation. It is an invitation that I humbly accept,” the former Permatang Pauh MP said.

With this new role, I will no longer serve as senior advisor on economics and finance to the Prime Minister. It is an honour to be able to contribute and support efforts to chart a better future for Malaysia. I thank the Prime Minister for the trust he placed in me,” she added in a statement.

Nurul Izzah said she is grateful for all the support she received from the public as well as within the civil service and the broader community of government.

“Malaysians have collectively envisioned a better and more united future led by YAB Prime Minister and the Unity Government. I look forward to assisting YBhg. Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican and the other committee members in serving our beloved nation,” she added.

Her appointment as her father’s advisor sparked criticism of nepotism.

Nurul Izzah had revealed in an exclusive interview with Sunday Star that she had been serving as senior adviser to the Prime Minister since Jan 3.

However, Anwar had said that Nurul Izzah is not paid any allowances for the role.
