Barisan's statement of support will strengthen Sabah govt, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government is only going to grow stronger and more stable with Barisan Nasional expressing its support, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Hajiji said the statement by Barisan secretary-general Dr Zambry Abd Kadir that the coalition is in support of the state government was good.

"This means that the state government will be stronger in the unity government helmed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said after launching a Malaysia Madani seminar here on Tuesday (Feb 14).

On Sunday (Feb 12), Zamry had issued a statement backing the Hajiiji-led state government and also announced that Sabah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Yakubah Khan will liaise with the state government in its development agenda, among other matters.

Asked if this meant that he would not harbour a grudge against Barisan, Hajiji said there was no place for grudges in politics as the state and people's wellbeing were the priority.

"That is the main purpose for leaders and politicians. We need to focus on unity and development to boost economic activities for the betterment of the people and their livelihood," he said.

Asked if Sabah Barisan or Umno had approached him for any discussions related to the state, he said "we'll wait and see".

He also said he was fine with Yakubah's appointment as the liaison with Sabah Umno.

"I am open to such changes... there is nothing wrong because my focus is on developing the state and uniting the people," he said.

He said it was vital that Sabahans work as one to ensure that development plans under the Sabah Maju Jaya initiative were carried out smoothly.
