Valentine's Day: 24 Ipoh couples tie the knot at mass wedding


Twenty four pairs of wedding couples registered their marriage at Ipoh Chin Woo athletic association in conjunction with Valentine's Day celebration.

IPOH: A total of 24 couples exchanged their vows during a mass wedding registration ceremony at the Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association hall here held in conjunction with Valentine’s Day.

The couples came dressed in white dresses, black suits, while some just dressed in shirts.

Among the couples present were 32-year-old IT engineer Foong Kuo Kang and his 30-year-old hairstylist bride, who had met during their university days in 2013

Foong said they have been a couple for nearly 10 years.

“My wife loves to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and usually I will buy her flowers and take her out for dinner. If the budget allows, then I will get her a gift as well. My wife on the other hand, gives me a kiss,” he said in jest.

Lee Chee Onn, 33, and his wife Tan Lee Hii, 31 said they chose the date to get registered as it was special and easy to remember.

The salesman said he met his hairstylist wife seven years ago.

“We are finally officially husband and wife. We chose this date as it is special, and we will definitely not forget our anniversary date yearly,” he said on Tuesday (Feb 14).

Similarly, 35-year-old Wong Hon Leong and 27-year-old Fong Cai Ying said that they'd decided to

tie the knot after going out for four years

Both of them are working at a store selling jewellery in Genting Highlands.

“I am from Ipoh, while my wife is from Gua Musang in Kelantan. We met at work, fell in love, and we decided to get registered on Valentine’s Day,” he added.

For couple Ooi Min Keun, 41, and Chan Yen Leng, 38, this is their third year together.

Chan works in a pharmacy, while Ooi runs his own transportation business.

“We had met through mutual friends, and ended up becoming a couple. He had proposed to me two years ago,” said Chan.

Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association president Datuk Ooi Foh Sing wished the couples a happy married life together.

He said Valentine’s Day was among the popular dates chosen by couples to register their marriage.

“What is important is to respect one another. The most important thing is for the couples to respect their parents and family members,” he added.
