PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will definitely contest in the upcoming state polls, says party secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi.
“Yes, I can confirm that Muda will field candidates in the upcoming state elections, but it is still too early to say which states, ” he told The Star on Wednesday (Feb 15).
The party led by Muar MP and former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman made its polls debut in the Johor state elections last year.
It secured one seat in the Johor state polls, when its deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz won the Puteri Wangsa state assembly seat.
Six states - Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu, Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan - which did not dissolve their state assemblies during the 15th General Election will hold their state polls this year.
Amir also says that Muda is open to working with Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.
“We’re also open to working with KJ and Shahril. They’re both national assets,” he said.
Khairy, who was the former Umno youth chief and health minister, was sacked from Umno while Shahril has been suspended as the Umno information chief and deputy youth chief.
While Khairy’s plans for his political future are yet to be known, he has hinted that he may run in the coming Selangor state polls.
The former Rembau MP was also offered the mentri besar's post in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
