KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke was open to healthy discussions over weaknesses in MyJPJ app, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
This comes after both leaders had a casual chat over the matter during the sidelines of Parliament proceedings on Thursday (Feb 16).
"Bumped into Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.
"He has taken note of the breach of personal data on the MyJPJ app since last Friday (Feb 10) and is ready to accept constructive criticism while admitting that there are weaknesses in the app, just as I had raised in my debate of the Royal Address yesterday (Feb 15)," the Ayer Hitam MP said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Feb 16).
Dr Wee added that a few other MPs also joined in the conversation and offered some views on the matter.
He said this included Perikatan Nasional Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim.
"Most importantly, despite our political differences, we can have an amicable discussion for the good of the people.
"Hopefully, we can carry on with such healthy discussions, whereby views and constructive criticism are taken positively," he said.
Apart from constructive criticism, Dr Wee also acknowledged that he will give credit to the good efforts of the government if warranted.
"Of course, we will also give credit when credit is due.
"It is the interests of the people that we are working for," he added.
The Facebook post by the former Transport Minister comes after he raised the possibility of data breaches involving some 16mil license holders occurring with the MjJPJ app owing to weaknesses.
Dr Wee suggested the government take immediate steps to address the issue and re-look the entire system and not merely through piecemeal measures.
On Feb 10, Loke launched a pilot project on the use of the digital display mode of the e-LKM and e-LMM.
The e-LKM is the e-version of the road tax sticker for privately owned vehicles, whereas the e-LMM is the e-version of the Malaysian driving licence.
Both e-LKM and e-LMM can be applied through the Road Transport Department (JPJ) website at https://public.jpj.gov.my or MyJPJ app from Feb 10.
On Tuesday (Feb 14), JPJ director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim announced improved security and user-friendliness features of the MyJPJ application and its public portal.
He said this was in addition to the existing two-level security feature, namely password and TAC code.
