Fancy number plates lead to summonses for Melaka motorcyclists

JASIN: Police in Jasin have issued summons to 12 motorcyclists for using non-standard number plates for their vehicles.

"It's wrong to put number plates that do not conform to specifications on vehicles," said Jasin police traffic department officer Inspector G. Gunaseellan when met on Friday (Feb 17).

"The excuse these motorists gave was that their merged or modified letters as well as numbers to read a phrase were for aesthetic purposes," he added.

"Using decorative fonts or anything which affects the number plates is a traffic offence," he added.

Insp Gunaseellan said the 12 summonses were issued on Wednesday (Feb 15).

Earlier, Jasin police welcomed its new OCPD-Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi.

DSP Ahmad Jamil, 45, replaced acting OCPD Asst Supt Mohd Fadzli Othman during a handing-over ceremony at the Jasin police headquarters on Friday (Feb 17).

The ceremony was witnessed by Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah and other senior cops from the state.

DSP Ahmad Jamil who hails from Butterworth, Penang has been in the force since 2001.
