Six states aiming for consensus on polls date

GEORGE TOWN: The six states that did not hold their polls during GE15 will meet soon to decide when to dissolve their legislative assemblies.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said he would sit down with the heads of government of Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, as well Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari who initiated the joint meeting, sometime next week.

"We'll discuss when to dissolve our assemblies to pave the way for state elections.

"The time frame is getting narrower and it has to happen by June or July," Chow told reporters after launching ARmenian Park, the state's first augmented reality (AR) park, here on Friday (Feb 17).

The six states opted not to hold state polls during GE15 on Nov 19, choosing instead to do it closer to the expiry of their five-year mandates in the middle of this year.

Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan were under Pakatan Harapan which was part of the Federal Government while Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu were under PAS, a component of Perikatan Nasional that represents the Federal Opposition.
