AN ENGINEER from Bandar Mas, Kota Tinggi, Johor, has been earning up to RM6,000 side income monthly by cultivating vegetables hydroponically.
Wan Muhamad Anis Wan Mat, 30, took advantage of the open land behind his house to grow mustard greens, white mustard, kale and spinach using 22 hydroponic racks, which can yield up to 80kg a week.
“This is a side project because I still have my own career as an oil and gas engineer. I have been interested in entrepreneurship for a long time and have also tried other businesses.
“I have been dabbling in agriculture for the past three years which I started with 2,000 chilli plants. Now, I have switched to vegetables where the returns are much faster than chilli,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
The father of one invested about RM35,000 to build a hydroponic system that was inspired by a YouTube video.
“This system is simple and does not require a lot of energy, the method only needs a switch button for the fertilisation process, irrigation starts from the seedling stage until it is transferred to the hydroponic system.”
> Actor Faizal Hussein, 57, has always set his own standards when it comes to the roles he undertakes, accepting those that come with a challenge, he told Berita Harian.
The Gombak-born actor believes that the strategy gives him an edge to give his best while staying relevant.
“I still get leading roles but as far as accepting the offer, they have to be compatible.
“I am not really bothered about the type of roles, it is more about what message the role is trying to convey in the story.”
On his new film Imam which will be in cinemas on March 2, Faizal will be taking on the antagonist role of Haji Syamsuri who is opposing changes being brought into the village by Haji Mihad.
