Visitor who wanted to see S'wak MP ordered to leave Parliament for wearing short skirt


KUALA LUMPUR: A female visitor who wanted to meet an MP from Sarawak was ordered to leave the Parliament vicinity for not adhering to the parliamentary dress code.

The woman was first issued a warning by a Parliament staff member for wearing a short skirt that shows her left thigh.

Media personnel stationed at the Parliament lobby witnessed the incident when the visitor was told to leave.

"Bring her out," ordered the Parliament officer sternly.

The visitor immediately left the area.

It is learnt that this is the first time that she had entered Parliament.

After being advised for a few minutes, the visitor was given an option to return if she changed her skirt.

When met by reporters, the Parliament official refused to divulge his identity and explained that the visitor did not follow Parliament's clothing etiquette.

The officer also said that he received orders from the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Datuk Johari Abdul to monitor the parliamentary dress code.

Members of Parliament attending the Dewan Rakyat meeting on Tuesday are exempted from wearing a necktie. However, the ruling does not apply to media personnel and other government officials in Parliament.

Recently, there was a case of a woman who was denied entry into the police station for wearing short pants, and a case of a woman who was denied emergency medical treatment for wearing short pants.
