Five Myanmar nationals remanded a week to assist in murder probe

PORT DICKSON: Police here have obtained an order from the Magistrate's Court here to remand five Myanmar nationals for a week to assist in a probe into the murder of a 44-year-old man.

District police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said magistrate V. Vanita signed the order allowing the suspects to remain in police custody till Feb 26.

"We arrested the fifth suspect aged 20 at a unit at Jalan Pasar Borong Selayang in Kuala Lumpur around 11.15pm on Sunday (Feb 19).

"All five were taken to the Magistrate's Court on Monday (Feb 20) to be remanded," he said.

Police had earlier in the day detained four other suspects aged between 19 and 49 years in Shah Alam in Selangor around 11.40am.

They also recovered the victim's motorcycle from the suspects.

Supt Aidi Sham said the victim's father lodged a report around 3pm on Saturday (Feb 18) after he found his son's lifeless body at the farm.

A police team was immediately sent to the farm and they found the victim’s body with his hands and legs tied. There were also injuries to his head and body.

Supt Aidi Sham said the victim's father last saw him alive on Feb 17 when he went to the deceased's dragon fruit farm to give him dinner.

The deceased did tell his father that he had hired a Myanmar national to help him at the farm two weeks ago but did not provide any other information.

Supt Aidi Sham said the suspects have also admitted to being involved in the murder, and revenge is believed to be the motive.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
