JOHOR BARU: Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has made 219 arrests - mostly civil servants - within the last three years for corruption.
State director Datuk Azmi Alias said starting from 2020 until December last year, Johor MACC has opened up 196 investigation papers relating to corruption cases.
“These cases involved 219 arrests and 101 of them have been charged in court. Civil servants made up the most arrests with 90 individuals during the period.
“This is followed by 75 arrests involving private employees and 54 public individuals,” he said in his speech before launching a radio drama about corruption at Johor RTM here on Monday (Feb 20).
Azmi added that during the same period based on the number of arrests made, 2021 recorded the highest number of arrests with 89, followed by 2022 (86 arrests) and 2020 (41 arrests).
He said Johor MACC has also received 940 tips or information related to corruption, embezzlement and abuse of power in the same period.
