Psychiatric patient caused ruckus at sister's home before Selayang Hospital stabbing, say cops

SHAH ALAM: The man who stabbed a patient at the Selayang Hospital had caused a ruckus at his sister's home before he was brought to the hospital.

Acting Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the suspect is believed to have travelled from Lahad Datu, Sabah to his sister's home in Kuala Lumpur.

"Investigations showed that the suspect was acting aggressively at his sister's home. After calming him down, the suspect was brought to Selayang Hospital in a car with his family members at about 1.25am on Feb 14.

"The car was escorted by two police personnel from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit until it arrived at Selayang Hospital. The policemen then departed the hospital for other duties," she told a press conference at the state police headquarters on Monday (Feb 20).

DCP Sasikala said the investigation is still ongoing to uncover the cause of the incident.

"The hospital management informed us that it was not suitable to interview the suspect given his current condition. We are still waiting for the suspect's psychiatric report," she said.

On Feb 14, it was reported that an agitated psychiatric patient had allegedly stabbed a man three times while waiting in a hospital.

The patient took a knife from the staff nurse pantry and stabbed a dengue patient once in the back and twice in the abdomen.

The victim had to go through a surgery as the knife ended up being wedged in the victim’s abdomen.
