SHAH ALAM: Over 100 summonses were issued by police in a traffic operation against number plates that do not comply with the law.

In a statement on Tuesday (Feb 21), Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that an operation was launched on Feb 18 at Dataran Kemerdekaan here.

The operation was part of a nationwide crackdown on number plate non-compliance, he said.

"As a result of the operation, as many as 285 summonses were issued for various traffic infractions, whereas 94 summons were issued for offences regarding number plates," he said.

Most offences involving number plates were custom "fancy" number plates that did not conform to the set regulations.

"A total of 81 motorcycles were also seized for various reasons, including for riding without a license," he said.
