PETALING JAYA: In a daring but futile attempt to escape from authorities, a man believed to be a foreign national tried to jump from the penthouse unit of a block of offices in Phileo Damansara to the office one floor below.

In the incident at about 6pm on Tuesday (Feb 21), his plan however was foiled by the quick action of officers from the Immigration Department's special force team (Pastak) and members of the Fire and Rescue Department who apprehended him midway through his escape.

The commotion and the presence of teams of enforcement officers in balaclavas and firemen in the area caught the attention of office workers in the area as they witnessed the scene unfolding before them.

The suspect was accompanied by a couple of Pastak officers in an ambulance out of the area.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Hafisham Mohd Noor said the man, a 36-year-old New Zealander, injured his arms and hips when he fell three floors in his escape attempt.

"He fell from the 14th floor to the 11th floor of a building in Phileo Damansara.

"The man suffered injuries to his arms and hips due to the fall and was brought down using a stretcher.

"He was given treatment by a Red Crescent team," he said when contacted.
