KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statements of eight individuals in connection with the case where a bag filled with Quran was found in a drain in Jinjang here.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said as of Tuesday (Feb 21), eight people have been called up in the course of the investigation.
"We have taken statements from eight individuals including the complainant, those seen in the TikTok video and the person who recorded it.
"We also went to a nearby mosque to ensure that the Quran were not from there," he told reporters after launching the KL Cops Night Ride programme on Tuesday (Feb 21).
Comm Azmi said the investigation was underway to identify the person responsible for dumping the Quran.
"We will send the Quran to the Chemistry Department for analysis. We will also check footage from nearby CCTVs and as well as the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) traffic surveillance system," he said.
Comm Azmi reminded the public to give the police space and time to investigate the incident.
"Refrain from speculating on the matter as the investigation is ongoing," he added.
A 52-year-old woman had lodged a report that she had found 13 copies of the Quran in a drain at Tasik Sri Murni Jinjang at about 6.30pm on Saturday (Feb 18).
