A TOTAL of 180 high-profile cases were brought to court by the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) over the past two years, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The cases which were brought to court between 2018 and January this year were of public interest and sensitive, he added.
He added that 60 cases were completed of which 72 individuals were found guilty, he said in a written reply to Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib (PN-Maran). The remaining 120 court cases are still ongoing.
Separately, 58 initiatives under the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) were implemented as of December last year, said Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The Minister in charge of Law and Institutional Reforms added that this was 52% out of the total initiatives monitored under the NACP.
Another 58 initiatives under the NACP are slated for implementation by Dec 31 this year, she told Wong Kah Woh (PH-Taiping).
Although the government decided on Dec 7 last year to disband the Global Infrastructure Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC), she said its functions were taken over by other agencies.
“There was no decision that the NACP should be discontinued and its implementation is still ongoing as planned,” she added.
The NACP, launched in 2019, was created as a comprehensive policy to end corruption, and outlined six priority areas vulnerable to corruption.
These were political governance; public sector administration; public procurement; corporate governance; legal and judiciary sectors; and law enforcement.
