KUALA LUMPUR: While the charging of Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan stole the thunder, a businessman also pleaded not guilty to two counts of graft linked to Jana Wibawa in the Sessions Court just next door.
Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, 42, who is also Segambut Bersatu division deputy chief, is accused of soliciting for himself bribes with a value of between 3.5% and 7% of the project to be acquired by a managing director of MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd.
The money was allegedly an inducement for him to assist the company to obtain an acceptance letter under the Jana Wibawa programme from the government.
He allegedly committed the offence at a restaurant in Dutamas here, sometime in March 2021.
On the second charge, Adam Radlan is accused of receiving RM500,000 through his CIMB Bank account from an MIE Infrastructure & Energy managing director as an inducement for him to assist the company in obtaining an acceptance letter for a project called “Projek Membina Jalan Sg Adam ke Kg Banat, Perlis” from the government through direct negotiations. The project was valued at RM47.8mil.
Both charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh offered bail at RM300,000 for both charges.
Lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam asked for RM100,000 bail on grounds that his client had cooperated with the MACC investigation.
“My client is a businessman with four children aged between nine and 16.
“He was contacted by the MACC last night (Monday), and came to the MACC office for his statement to be taken. That was when he was informed that he would be charged today,” said Rajan.
Judge Suzana Hussin fixed bail at RM120,000 in two sureties, and ordered the accused to surrender his passport, along with reporting himself to the MACC office once a month. The case is set for mention on March 23.
It is learnt that Adam Radlan will be facing more charges in Shah Alam today.
