Barisan to use own logo in upcoming state polls

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional will use its own logo for the six state elections, although it will work with other parties in the unity government.

The elections in the six states – Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah – will be discussed at the next unity government secretariat meeting, said Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

At its first meeting on Feb 7, the unity government secretariat had set up three committees, including one to look into state elections.

“We have started discussions on seat allocations, but they have not been finalised,” Ahmad Zahid said after visiting the Orang Asli Development Department here.

He said that although the state polls would show cooperation among parties in the unity government, Barisan candidates would continue to use the “dacing” symbol.

The six states have reached an understanding to dissolve their state assemblies in the last two weeks of June.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who revealed this, said the respective parties would discuss the dissolution before presenting the date to the Rulers and heads of states.
