Budget 2023: Flood mitigation, Jana Wibawa projects awarded via direct negotiations to be re-tendered, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Flood mitigation projects worth RM15bil and Jana Wibawa projects worth RM7bil awarded through direct negotiations have been scrapped, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the government is expected to save RM3bil by re-tendering these projects, adding that six flood mitigation projects will be re-tendered immediately, the latest by June 2023.

The savings from this will be used for other projects that will benefit the people, said Anwar in tabling Budget 2023 here.

To ensure flood mitigation projects achieve their objectives, people-centric and high-impact projects should be implemented through tender.

Themed "Membangun Malaysia Madani (Developing Malaysia Madani)”, Budget 2023 will in particular, focus on addressing the high cost of living, further strengthening the social safety net and enhancing the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) ecosystem.
