Budget 2023: Loans worth RM1.7bil for micro-entrepreneurs, hawkers


KUALA LUMPUR: Financing packages worth RM1.7bil will be provided to micro-entrepreneurs and hawkers by agencies under Bank Negara, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in tabling the revised Budget 2023 on Friday (Feb 24), said a total of RM300mil will be allocated to support micro-businesses by women and youth entrepreneurs while BSN will offer over RM1bil in financing, focusing on micro SMEs and hawkers.

Tekun will provide RM330mil, including RM10mil to help youths from disadvantaged families by helping them to start a business, by giving them start-up capital to kickstart a delivery service using motorcycles.

The government will cover the driving test fee for motorcycle class B2, taxi, bus and ehailing licences.
