MELAKA: Mothers sang soothing lullabies for their young sons who were going through their rite of circumcision process with the organiser thanking them for helping make the event a success.
Pertubuhan Prihatin Anak Melaka (PPAM) official Sardi Mahorm said more than 130 teenage boys attended the event that was held at Al-Aminin Mosque in Batang Tiga here on Sunday(Feb 26).
"This is the pioneer mass circumcision organised by PPAM.
"We faced no hiccups and none of the boys were scared, thanks to all the mothers who accompanied their sons," he said.
Sardi said mothers made up the majority of those accompanying the kids to the circumcision rooms inside the mosque.
"PPAM organised the programme for locals and we were happy it went smoothly," he said.
Sardi said the programme was part of PPAM's community service responsibility.
"Due to overwhelming response, PPAM chairman Mohd Syamsul Mat has decided to turn the circumcision programme into an annual event in conjunction with the school holidays," he said.
The event was graced by Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
Shamsul Iskandar said such an event helped to lessen the burden of parents of paying for circumcisions.
"Circumcising one child can cost up to RM150 and it was done free today," he said.
The event also witnessed free Covid-19 vaccinations offered to 150 parents who brought along their children to the mosque.
