Barisan sends letter of demand to Muhyiddin and Azmin over Wan Saiful claims

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional has sent a letter of demand to Perikatan Nasional leaders Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for allegedly claiming that its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had a hand in the corruption charges against Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

In a statement issued by Barisan Nasional Communications on Monday (Feb 27), the coalition stated that the allegations by Muhyiddin and Azmin were “a slanderous attempt to cover the ongoing damage in Perikatan itself”.

The letter asks that both Muhyiddin and Azmin retract their statements, apologise to Ahmad Zahid and pay damages due to the slander.

“The allegations of Muhyiddin that Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Umno president and Barisan chairman, is the 'perpetrator' and 'planner' of the charges against Wan Saiful and Perikatan are extreme allegations.

“These allegations are reckless and deliberate slander to cover the damage which is happening in Perikatan itself.

"This allegation was further supported by Perikatan Information chief Azmin who stated that the corruption charges against Perikatan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) were planned actions.

“The series of allegations were created by these two individuals to create various reasons to hide the corruption and bribery in Perikatan.

“A letter of demand has been sent ... to the lawyers of Muhyiddin and Azmin over these baseless allegations. Both are asked to retract their statements and apologise publicly and pay for the damages due to the slanderous statements,” it read.

It further stated that Ahmad Zahid had never abused his position to charge the leaders of Perikatan and remained focused on the people’s welfare.
