Siblings drown while swimming at Ipoh pool


IPOH: Two siblings aged eight and nine drowned at a swimming pool in Ipoh on Sunday (Feb 26).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hasan said the siblings originally went swimming at around 6 pm.

“The bodies were brought to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and were pronounced dead at the hospital. Based on the post-mortem conducted on Monday (Feb 27), the cause of death is drowning,” he said in a statement.

Comm Yahaya said the police are still investigating who had accompanied the victims at the pool.

“We would like to advise parents and guardians to not expose their children to any harmful activities that may result in unwanted incidents,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1)(A) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).

Earlier, a message circulated on Whatsapp of the incident allegedly happening at a hotel in Ipoh.
