IPOH: Two eco-parks in Perak have been installed with an early automatic warning system to detect the water surge phenomenon.

The RM800,000 system has been installed at the Kledang Saiong and Lata Iskandar eco-parks.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said with the system in place, both eco-parks would be a safer, conducive and comfortable environment.

“Another five eco-parks have the manual system, and I am hoping in time to come, the system would be upgraded to the automatic ones as well," said Saarani.

He added that while there are 13 eco-parks in Perak, these seven parks have been identified as the ones with the most visitors.

“These seven have a higher risk for a water surge to occur," he said after launching the system at the Kledang Saiong eco-park here on Monday (Feb 27)

Saarani also planted trees at the same event, and added that the Perak government aims to plant a total of 10 million trees in five years, starting from 2021.

In his speech earlier, state Forestry Department director Datuk Mohamed Zin Yusop said the system would be able to identify a water surge with as much as five minutes of warning time via its sensors.

“Warnings via sirens will be given as soon as the water level starts to increase to a dangerous level. Thus, it is important that the five manual systems at the other eco-parks are upgraded as well,” he added.
