JOHOR BARU: A former civil servant has pleaded not guilty to three charges of using forged Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) documents.
Muhammad Farhan Salleh, 37, entered the plea after the charges were read to him before Sessions Court judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Ariffin Ismail here on Tuesday (Feb 28).
He was accused of using false SSM registration documents of three companies between January 2017 and January 2019, during which time he was a clerk at the Jurutulis office of the Johor state assembly.
The accused, who left the civil service in 2020, was alleged to have committed the offence at the office in Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar.
The charges were framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 465, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
DPP Chan Choon Yew prosecuted while the accused was represented by Mohd Fazaly Ali Mohd Ghazaly.
During the proceeding, Chan suggested that bail be set at RM100,000.
However, Mohd Fazaly requested a lower bail of RM50,000, as the accused is the sole breadwinner for his two children and pregnant wife.
The court then set bail at RM50,000 with one surety and fixed March 16 for next mention.
The accused posted bail.
