PETALING JAYA: The police have recorded statements from eight people in the course of their investigation into the dumping of the Al-Quran in a Jinjang drain.
In a statement on Tuesday (Feb 28), Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the investigation is being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code.
This section concerns acts that cause disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will.

He also urged the people to avoid speculating on the issue and to let the authorities take the appropriate action.
"We are working to ensure that the instigators are located and action is taken against them,” said Acryl Sani.
He added that all relevant agencies – including the police – will continuously monitor the situation and act to ensure public harmony in Malaysia is protected.
“To respect the holiness of the Al-Quran, if any parties wish to dispose of them, they should receive advice from the state Islamic departments before doing so," he said.
On Feb 18, 13 copies of the Al-Quran were found in a drain at Tasik Sri Murni Jinjang.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said on Feb 21 that eight people had been called up in the course of the investigation.
