TAIWANESE actress Joe Chen Chiao-en has expressed regret for making her relationship with Malaysian husband Alan Chen public, according to Sin Chew Daily.
The 44-year-old said there were many vicious attacks against her entrepreneur husband, who is nine years her junior, following the exposure of their courtship in 2019.
“At that time, there were a lot of voices, something I did not expect. Then came a lot of malicious attacks, and they hurt,” she added when appearing as a guest on the Chinese variety show Viva La Romance recently.
Asked if she would choose to make the relationship public again if given another chance, she replied, “I will not make it public.”
Joe, however, thanked her husband for being positive and having never complained.
“He stood firm and chose to stay by my side,” she said.
The couple met on a dating TV show. They got married in March last year.
The pair was reported to have spent their Chinese New Year holiday in Malaysia, with fans sharing photographs of them visiting the malls and tourist spots in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, among others, on social media sites.
> China Press reported that Hong Kong actress Crystal Fung has returned to school to pursue a master’s degree.
The Miss Hong Kong 2016 pageant winner posted a picture of her visiting her alma mater, Hong Kong University, where she graduated with a degree in Nutritional Science.
The post sparked speculation that the 28-year-old was planning to retire from acting to pursue a career in finance.
Fung joined TVB after winning the beauty pageant competition.
She quickly gained fame and won the Most Improved Actress award at the TVB Anniversary Awards in 2018.
She hardly earned any roles recently, leading to speculation that she had been placed in “cold storage” after refusing to renew her acting contract.
