MBJB says it is first local authority to fully digitalise parking lot management

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has claimed to be the first local authority in the country to fully digitalise its parking lot management with the introduction of the MBJB Spot V2 application.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said the app also has a function to process applications for trading lots by petty traders and premises owners.

“The app also allows the user to help friends, family members and even tourists who want to pay for parking if they do not have the app by registering their vehicle number and making payment through the app.

“At the moment, more than 400,000 users have registered on the app, which clearly shows the importance of easing the process of parking lot management,” he said during a speech at the full council meeting at Menara MBJB on Tuesday (Feb 28).

Members of the public are encouraged to install the app because from June, all management of MBJB parking lots will be fully digitalised and there will no longer be parking coupons, he said.

“This is part of our effort to normalise a cashless society and digitalise our services to the public,” he added.

Mohd Noorazam also said the council will be installing an additional 500 CCTV cameras around the city centre starting in June.

“Those who have downloaded the app can also access CCTV footage to get real-time information,” he said, adding that the cameras will be installed at all hotspots in the public areas.

Meanwhile, on another matter, MBJB secretary Miswan Yunus informed the meeting that the council has prepared 2,896 Ramadan bazaar trading lots at 49 locations.

“From the 2,896 trading lots, 1,030 are provided by MBJB with a rental fee of between RM250 and RM600, while the remaining 1,866 are those provided by the private sector and associations with a ceiling price of RM600,” he said.
