Two die in fatal accidents in Sandakan and Beluran

KOTA KINABALU: Two fatalities were recorded in separate accidents in Sandakan and Beluran on Tuesday (Feb 28).

According to Sandakan police, a 56-year old man after dropping off his child at school early Tuesday.

He was on his way to work after dropping off his child at SMJK Tiong Hua when the accident occurred on Jalan Utara.

It is learnt the man lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree on the road divider.

He died on the spot.

In Beluran, a lorry attendant died when the vehicle he was in fell into a ravine along Jalan Telupid/Ranau around 12.30pm.

Beluran chief police Superintendent Kasim Muda said the 36-year-old victim was in a lorry carrying fertiliser heading from Kota Kinabalu towards Telupid.

"The lorry driver tried to avoid an oncoming car which had swerved into his lane.

"He then lost control of the vehicle which fell into the ravine.

"The driver and the attendant were thrown out of the lorry. The driver suffered minor injuries but the attendant died," he added.
