Almost 90 SPM candidates in Johor unable to sit for papers due to floods

PETALING JAYA: A total of 89 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Segamat and Kulai will not be sitting for exam papers on Wednesday (March 1) due to floods.

Johor education exco member Norliza Noh said seven examination centres were flooded and could not be used.

"The 89 SPM candidates come from SMK Tenang Stesen, SMK Bandar Putra, SMK Tinggi, SMK Gemereh, SMK LKTP Pemanis, SMK Dato Bentara Dalam and SMK Labis Segamat in Segamat, whereas the ones in Kulai are from SMK Taman Putri.

"Candidates will be sitting for Science and Physics tests on Wednesday (March 1) and Home Economics on Thursday (March 2)," she said in a statement.

A number of examination centres in Pasir Gudang, Johor Baru, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi have been affected by floods and pupils have to sit for their exams at other centres.

She added that the Johor education department will be monitoring the situation closely, especially the safety of all candidates in the state.
